In order to raise awareness in Germany of a revolutionary method for the early diagnosis of breast cancer, KW43 BRAND DESIGN based on the motto of the discovering hands project, “the blind see more,” has created a set of brochure.

The entire brochure is divided into two parts. The first one is “the blinds see more, ”makes people wonder why can the blind see more? In fact, this is a comparative expression. Express even blind people can see breast cancer tumor, which is difficult for normal to see. To give another example, how do we express not to harm animals? We need to think reversely, to find a reference to the opposite side, for example, through the image of a murderer holding a small animal can make people feel a contrast, rethink whether a person with normal feeling should protect animals more.

The second one, “IN THE BLIND’S HANDS,” answers the above question. It turns out that through the hands of the visually impaired, we can perceive more. In the printing process, the embossing process is used. By combining the convex Braille letters with the ordinary letters, we can know the information that the visually impaired and the normal vision can work together to better diagnose Breast cancer.

The advantage of this design is that the brochure is divided into two parts, one part throws information that is contrary to common sense, and the other part answers people’s questions. And the two parts of the information are indispensable. If we read them independently, there will be just some words that people cannot understand. Lack of help from people with normal vision, or lack of diagnosis of visually impaired people, which will not perfectly improve existing breast cancer treatment. Therefore, we can say this design is in line with the concept of team innovation.

Discovering hands® trains blind and visually impaired women to become Clinical Breast Examiners (CBEs), deploying them for the early detection of breast cancer. Thanks to their extraordinarily well-developed sense of touch, blind women can already detect even the smallest of tumors at an early stage.

This innovative concept not only establishes a greater degree of certainty for detecting changes in the breast, but also facilitates an agreeable examination environment for women, with maximum attention and allocation of time. Discovering hands® transforms a perceived “disability” into a capability and simultaneously makes a valuable contribution to enhancing the range of professional opportunities for visually impaired persons, while improving health care provision.
